Project Description:
Albany Airport Maintenance Hangar 211
PROJECT OVERVIEW: This aviation infrastructure project delivered a new 16,000-square-foot pre-engineered metal building hangar with an adjoining 3,100-square-foot office extension at Albany Airport. The comprehensive scope included refurbishing the exterior of an existing adjacent hangar and replacing the asphalt apron on the airside of the facility.
CONSTRUCTION SCOPE: MJR Companies executed the General Construction package, which encompassed site work, paving, concrete installation, structural steel erection, masonry, interior finishes, hangar door systems, and roofing work for both structures. This comprehensive scope required precise coordination of multiple specialized trades to meet aviation facility standards.
COORDINATION CHALLENGES: The project operated under a multiple-prime contract structure, requiring detailed coordination among separate contracting entities. This arrangement demanded meticulous scheduling and communication to ensure seamless integration of all building systems and components.
SECURITY IMPLEMENTATION: A significant challenge involved complying with stringent FAA security requirements while maintaining airport operations. The team constructed various temporary security barriers to isolate unsecured work areas, enabling construction to proceed without disrupting daily airport activities or compromising airfield security protocols.
PROJECT EXECUTION: All construction activities were designed to accommodate the unique constraints of working in an active airport environment. The completed facility enhances Albany Airport's maintenance capabilities while meeting current aviation industry standards for operational efficiency and security.
