Project Description:
SUNY New Paltz Fine Arts Building
PROJECT OVERVIEW: This comprehensive renovation focused on the exterior envelope of the Fine Arts Building at SUNY New Paltz, addressing failing facade elements while significantly improving energy efficiency. The project encompassed multiple systems, including windows, curtain walls, doors, and the installation of a modern rain screen system.
BUILDING ENVELOPE UPGRADES: Work included the complete removal of existing windows and curtain walls throughout the building, with new units installed in the existing openings. All entry doors and hardware were replaced to improve security, accessibility, and energy performance. The brick facade underwent extensive repair to prepare it as a substrate for the new rain screen system.
RAINSCREEN INSTALLATION: The project featured the installation of a complete rain screen system, incorporating a vapor barrier, insulation, and metal furring to support the exterior panels. This modern system eliminates water infiltration issues while providing additional insulation for improved thermal performance.
AESTHETIC IMPROVEMENTS: The rotunda's exposed concrete facade was thoroughly cleaned to restore its appearance. The existing EIFS penthouse facade and casework were repainted to complement the renovated exterior. The comprehensive approach maintained architectural cohesion while modernizing the building's appearance.
INTERIOR FINISHING: Interior work included patching, painting, and repairs associated with the window, curtain wall, and door replacements. New window treatments were installed throughout the building to complete the renovation. These interior finishes ensured the exterior improvements integrated seamlessly with indoor spaces.
